Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,”

The just shall live by faith…

✦ Gal 3:11 “But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.” (also Hab 2:4, Rom 1:17, Heb 10:38)

✦ Gal 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

✦ Our entire existence – now and eternal – has to be rooted in faith in the Lord.

1. What He’s done (justification).
2. What He’s doing (sanctification).
3. What He will do (glorification).

Rom 5:1-2 “Therefore being justified by faith (1), we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand (2), and rejoice in hope of the glory of God (3).”

Justified by Faith

Justified = debt paid, declared righteous (condition acceptable to God), brought into right standing with God

✦ Our righteousness is as filthy rags.

✚ Is 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

✦ Comes only by the blood of the Lamb which cleanses us of all sin and reconciles us to God.

✚ 1 Pet 1:18-19 “ forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” (also Rev 7:14)

✦ Faith in His blood.

✚ Rom 3:23-25 “for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation (appease the wrath of God against us, atonement/reconciliation) through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;”

Sanctified by Faith

Sanctified = made holy; set apart unto God (for the use of the kingdom)

✦ In the OT the firstborn were sanctified unto God (Ex 13:2), the priests (Ex 19:22), and the tabernacle/vessels (Ex 30:26-29 by holy anointing oil / rep: the Spirit of God in NT); were made holy (which means set apart for its intended use). All were sanctified prior to being used by God/for the service of the tabernacle.

✚ In like manner, we are made holy/sanctified by God and set apart from the world (2 Cor 6:17) for the use of the kingdom, as priests (Rev 1:6, 5:10) & sons.

✚ Sanctification is a continual process–are saved (1 Cor 1:18, Eph 2:8), being saved (Php 2:12) , shall be saved (Rom 5:9-10, Rom 13:11, 1 Cor 5:5, Matt 10:22).

✦ Sanctified by the truth: John 17:17-19 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.”

✚ Word of God: Heb 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

✚ Discipleship & freedom through the truth: John 8:31-32 “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

✚ Sanctification process = us submitting to the authority of the Word of God in us/our lives.

✦ Sanctified by the Spirit of Christ (Word of God in us). Rom 8:9 (if any man have not Spirit of Christ…) Read all of Romans ch 8.

✚ 2 Thess 2:13 “But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:”

✚ 1 Pet 1:2 “elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied/”

✚ Empowered to obey/submit only by the Spirit. Gal 5:16-17 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

✘ Law fulfilled by the Spirit for it’s now written on our hearts/minds: Heb 8:10, heb 10:16

✚ Grace of God is His Spirit indwelling us (Heb 10:29). Our Teacher: Tit 2:11-12 “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

✘ John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

✘ 1 John 2:27 “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” (speaking against seducing/deceiving spirits)

✘ Spirit & Word always agree! Spirit of Truth: John 14:17, 15:26, 16:13.

✦ Sanctification is by faith in God alone as it is His Spirit working in us that completes the work. We partner w/the Lord by saying “Yes” in obedience and surrender.

✚ Php 1:6 “being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”

Glorified by Faith

Glorified = When we received our eternal, heavenly bodies and are transformed to “be like him” (1 John 3:2). The end of our salvation.

✦ Jesus was glorified after His resurrection (the “ascension”). John 7:39, 12:16, 1 Tim 3:16

✦When Jesus returns, the last day, we will receive our glorified bodies.

✚ Php 3:20-21 “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”

✦ Our eternal hope, the final stage of the salvation process.

✚ Rom 8:17 “and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” Also: Rom 5:2, Col 1:27

✚ Hope: Requires faith toward God and in His promises to us. Rom 8:24 “For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?” Also Heb 11:1.

Faith without works is dead.

✦ James 2:14-26, Faith isn’t just a belief, it’s accompanied by action. Faith spurs us on to good works.

✦ v22 – faith made “perfect” or complete by the action that follows.

✦ Heb Ch 11 – many faith examples

✦ Matt 9:22 “But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.”

✚Her faith caused her to press through the crowd to reach Jesus. THAT made her whole (complete).
