Hey friends! I’m happy you are stepping into this journey of 40 days with our King (or at least curious about it). I pray the Lord order your steps–whether it’s 40 days, 10 days or 3 days–to disconnect from the world and enter into a more profound, intimate relationship with Him.

40-days-with-the-king3-long2As I mentioned in my introduction post, I have some resources to help get you started and/or give you some direction for your time of dedicated, radical devotion.

As much time as you can give Jesus, give it to Him. Not only petitioning, but listening. If you would like some help in the area of growing in prayer, Mike Bickle offers a helpful 30-day prayer resource (actually a “challenge” for growing in prayer).

Make intentional effort to pray in tongues for extended periods of time as well. If you have not yet received this gift of the Spirit, I highly encourage you to use this time to seek the Lord for it. It is a powerful prayer gift that allows the Spirit to work mightily in you (see 1 Corinthians 14:2-4).

FASTING – food!

Not fast food…lol. Fast from food. Yes, give up the other distractions for this time but let’s get back to Biblical fasting. Fast some or all of your meals, for one day or multiple days, however the Spirit leads but give up your flesh desire to gain the more in Him. If you are new to fasting, here is some helpful information.

Make time all throughout your days to worship Him with reckless abandon. It doesn’t only have to be at one specific time either. Worship at home, in the car, at work, with and without music. Give Him your all! He truly desires Your worship. He wants to come and inhabit your praise! And consciously acknowledge, make yourself purposely aware, of His presence with you at all times. He is really there, always.

But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
Psalm 22:3

Consume His word! Trust His leadership and study intentionally to know Him, not simply to know theological doctrines. Ask Him what He wants you to study during this time. He will surely guide you as He is the Spirit of Truth sent to lead and guide us into all truth. I don’t know about you, but that thrills my soul!

Some other suggestions may be to read through the New Testament, especially if you haven’t before. You can follow the Moody Church 40-day NT plan.

printable-reading-plan-psalms-proverbsI will personally be digesting and meditating on the Psalms and Proverbs (as well as any other the Spirit opens up along the way). You can download my 40-day Psalms & Proverbs Reading Plan here in B&W or Color . 🙂

I recommend keeping a 2-part journal. One for your thoughts and experiences during this time, along with what the Spirit is speaking back to you. You can Art Journal/Bible Journal as well to release whatever God is speaking to you in whatever medium you love. Paint it out, draw it out, collage it out. Just go for it!

And two, keep a prayer journal. Oftentimes we ask for so much but never go back to say, “Thank you.” Kinda like the 9 out of 10 lepers, right? (Luke 17:11-19) Perhaps we don’t do this intentionally yet we tend to forget all that we’ve asked for.  A prayer journal is a great way to remember what we’ve set before Him and see how He moves upon our requests to come back and give Him all the glory He deserves!

Continue to go to church and serve in whatever ministry role God has you in currently; however, I recommend not taking on any additional efforts. The goal of this time is to give as much as we can to abiding in His presence like Mary, not working like Martha.

If you don’t have somewhere you currently serve, find somewhere. Most churches have opportunities if you ask around. Charitable organizations in your city would be another great place to start. There is always a need.  Ask the Lord. Expect Him to answer. Then go where His Spirit leads. The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. In the act of serving, you get to see how God is changing your heart, making His word alive in you, cultivating the fruit of the Spirit and releasing His gifts through you for His glory!

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:6

You better believe distractions, frustrations, confusion and everything else will come to try and deter you from this time of dedicated devotion. Don’t give it any power over you! Take full authority over your  flesh, cast down any thoughts that come to exalt themselves, and understand that learning to battle this way is part of the process. Be encouraged: this is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith!

I am super excited to be on this journey with you! I pray an outpouring of radical encounter like we’ve never had. I pray our humble hearts, broken spirits and sacrifices of praise be a sweet smelling aroma unto our King. I pray strength to the inner man to stay the course. I pray ears to hear what the Spirit is saying. I pray fresh revelation knowledge in the Word and identities to be made secure in Abba. I pray that each day brings renewed hunger and thirst after righteousness, after His presence and after His kingdom. And I pray we each come through as carriers of the relentless, radical love of God that will shift our families, our churches, our cities, and our nation for the glory of God! In Jesus name, Amen!

Much love in Christ,

Amanda Brown

  1. Hello! I have been living out a lifestyle similar in some ways to this 40 challenge since January. You sharing this is very timely Amanda. Whether it be a beginning for some or a timely fine tuning (me) for others. You are blessing many by sharing this. I thank God for your caring and diligent example. You have definitely blessed me by sharing this. I am currently believing God for some things that will be a big change in my life. I needed this reminder to not settle, but to press in even more and run even harder. Thank you Sis 😀
